My new photography website.

Someone, somewhere stated that “Good is the enemy of great”. I’ve been fiddling with my new website for weeks trying to make peace between the two. A truce was called. Time to launch myself into my “second life”. Being an advertising art director for the last 25 years has been incredibly rewarding for me – but my real passion now is photography. When you are passionate about doing something,  you tend to do it well, and it shows in the work. Hopefully, my passion for photography will, in time, shine through. If you get a moment, I would appreciate you visiting the site and rummaging around. Please feel free to suggest ideas and thoughts about the site and how I could make it better. Good enough may be the enemy of great, but the will to get better is your best weapon in the fight to do great work.

My first professional photo shoot.

My first professional photo shoot: Portrait work of the pitch team for a media company based in Brussels. As the pitch was for a well-known fashion brand, I decided to keep the shots clean and simple. Everything was shot with a Sony 7s and I later processed the RAW file work through PS, then uploaded the images back into my iPhone and used an app called BleachBypass to give a blown-out look. Thanks to Christine Jean for commissioning me to do the work and to all the models, especially those represented here – Arnaud, Caroline, Christine and Tamara – for allowing me to use the images on social media. Thanks also to Michael and his team at Eye-Lite Brussels for help and advice with the Kino Flo lighting kit. Onwards and upwards.

La retouche photographique, 60 ans avant Photoshop

Comforting to know that even the most iconic of photographs and photographers were not adverse to a little retouching here and there. As Ansel Adams said “You don’t take a photography, you make it.” Photographic philistines take note when judging people who employ photo apps to enhance their mobile photographic work.

Knate Myers spent a long weekend editing and scoring this video, using source material from an image library online. The video is 3:49 long. By my, early morning calculation, that’s +/- 5,725 photographs in total – if you assume that the video is running at 25 frames a second. That’s a lot of spectacular photography. Works brilliantly.
